Peru - Saturday 24 October 1998
We wake up early again. We pass some famous Inca-monuments today, and we want to be there before other people get there.

I've told some other people in the group that I was disappointed that the fast walkers didn't help the slower ones. It seems like it has helped. Everybody is waitng for each other now, helping, pointing at unstable stones etc.

The monuments we visit, have several different functions: military, home of an Inca-king, guesthouse, etcetera. Freddy explains everything to us.

We see more and more parts of the 'real' Inca-Trail. Some parts of the trail have bene rebuilt, because it wasn't clear anymore where the original path was. Not everything the Inca's built, has survived history.

We're still walking between the clouds. It still is very impressive.

An old Inca-monument rises up from the clouds. It's a kind of amphitheater built of farming terraces. Really close to this monument is our third campsite.

We have to walk down quite a distance. We keep walking and walking, after every edge is another one. Elisabeth gets a little whingy of it.
This campsite is a real camping, with a restaurant and hot showers. We really needed that! Our porters cook a dinner which we consume in the building. We visit the Inca-ruin near the camping after dinner. When we are there, it appears to be much larger then it saeemed to be from a distance!

We walk to a waterfall. The Spanish said everybody who walks throught the water, will stay young for ever. Diederick is the first who dares to do it, Ronald almost falls down.

Diederick and Dawn sleep together this night. Died already knew that it wouldn't be a problem for me. Previous night, Dawn was sleeping together with Elisabeth, and she doesn't mind to share a tent with me either.
